The Melody
First poem of 2026!
There is a melody in my head.
I remember it from my dreams.
It played as I walked through a greyscale world,
When everyone was asleep.
My mom was in the kitchen,
Her head on the counter top.
My dad was in the living room,
Where the TV flickered on and off.
My sister lie sprawled in her crib,
A finger in her mouth.
And I wandered the lonely streets of a forgotten town.
I can’t remember where I went,
All I know is this…
All the while that same tune played,
Beautiful, yet somehow amiss.
I could not tell from where it came,
If it was from somewhere at all.
It seemed almost like a ghost,
So faint only I heard its call.
It almost brought me to tears,
Its sound was just so sad.
And now, as the years pass by,
That memory of it is all I have.
